“You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you.
And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.”
~ Arthur Plotnik
I see editing as a conversation. I offer suggestions, correct errors, question phrases, and note for you what stops me in my reading process. You consider my suggestions and questions, think about what might be getting in the way, and respond with something even better. At the end of the day, though, the style of your piece rules; some of the best published works I’ve read have defied grammar and spelling laws.
Editors work with authors to support and clarify ideas, stories, reports, articles, and essays. We work with publishers to polish manuscripts and proofs. And we collaborate with both to create the best finished publication possible.
People who read your writing shouldn’t know my name; I operate behind the scenes.
The best editors love what they do. That’s me. I love it.
